A previously low-profile blogger, Li Guangman, captured this sentiment in an essay that went viral and was republished online by party and state-controlled media. On one side are those favoring bold measures leading to a broad reorienting of China’s economy and society.

This sweeping series of regulatory measures has sparked a rare public debate inside China.
Following its meeting, the committee called for “reasonably adjusting excess incomes” and encouraging high-income individuals and businesses to “give back more to society.” Many - though not all - of the crackdowns fall under the umbrella of the concept of “common prosperity.” President Xi Jinping highlighted this concept during his comments to the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee for Financial and Economic Affairs on August 17, suggesting that “common prosperity” is a fundamental requirement of socialism and is necessary to balance growth and financial stability. Why would the normally tightly controlled Chinese media communicate such sweeping changes in a ham-fisted way that would lead to over $1 trillion in market value for China-listed firms being wiped out? Is China teetering on the cusp of social upheaval, or is the leadership using a moment when it feels strong at home to make major policy adjustments? What is happening?Īccording to China business and technology reporter Chang Che, China has 14 “ crackdowns” simultaneously underway on business sectors and individuals at the time of this writing. We made sure we are very upfront about working with them and even have a section on the body of the campaign called our partner.Beijing’s spate of actions has sparked questions among policymakers, investors, journalists, and interested observers about what is motivating China’s actions. Like I said, great products but a very little reach in the world market, this is where we can add value. We started to draw up designs and specs when at IBC we discovered Profound and have been in discussions with them since then about launching the product to a world market. With the Power Junkie launching in 2019 it was our aim to design and launch a usb powered 5W light in the first 1/4 of this year.
This is why BlindSpot Gear have jumped onboard, so they can make them available to a much wider audience.” In fact, you can’t even find out prices or purchase them directly from Profound. Trying to buy Profound lights is difficult. Now, you may be asking why would you want to rebrand an existing product? It’s a good question, but here is the answer.

The Crack lights are rebranded Profound PanFlex lights. We first saw this light along with other products from Profound at NAB 2018. “The Blind Spot Gear Crack Light is actually made by a South Korean company called Profound. In short, Profound is a great company with fantastic products, but, as Newsshooter said in their article they are very difficult to get hold of. Update: Blind Spot Gear has responded to us, and here is what they said… While we love Kickstarter as an innovation platform, we like the abuse of the platform a bit less.ĭIYP has reached out to Blind Spot Gear, but have received no prior to the publication of this article. It’s true, the Crack Light has a cleverer quote on the back of the light, and it will probably come in a fancier package, but is this worth $22 extra? Not for me, at least. And guess what? You can buy it cheaper, a lot cheaper than the Kickstarter selling price.Īccording to Profound’s Instagram, they have distribution pretty much all over the world. Erik Nasso over at Newsshooter covered it at IBC. Under the mother company, it is called the PanFlex 5W. It is made by Profound, a South Korean LED manufacturer.

Crack light has been on the market since IBC 2018, six months ago (or partially, even since NAB 2018, a full year ago). The Crack Light is a small, waterproof, phone-sized, USB-powered light. We got an email telling us that a new campaign for the Crack Light is actually a one-year-old product that you can already buy for a significantly less than the Kickstarter campaign asking price. What Kickstarter is not cool for, is when the platform is abused. And for this, we think Kickstarter is pretty cool. True, sometimes it failed, but for the most part, Kickstarter is a great platform to get a product out there.
It has brought many great photography accessories into our lives. We love Kickstarter here at DIYPhotography.
